Galva Independence Day 5k Run
The fourth of July always brings the Galva Independence Day 5k Run in Wiley Park. Packet pickup is in beautiful village park surrounded by well-kept turn of the century homes.
There is a fun run for children 10 and under and the kids really put maximum effort into this, the winners showing much determination and the next ones showing much discouragement.
The real attraction is the 5k; this starts out on quiet, shaded neighborhood streets paved with smooth to run on asphalt. After about a mile the course takes a downhill and runs out into the open, sunny, breezy countryside. The next mile and half are straight out and back in the countryside cornfields. When you finish this stretch it is back up the hill and a short sprint to the finish line. Run half way around the park and sprint down the to the finish line.
Reward yourself afterwards with all you can eat pancakes and sausage made by the Galva Lions Club.
